The new ECI is here - join us in Brussels

18-02-2020

It’s 2020 – which means the European Citizens’ Initiative 2.0 is here! On January 1, the new rules of the tool went into effect, making the world’s only tool of transnational participatory democracy more user-friendly and effective. Two events dedicated to the ECI are kicking-off the new phase of the ECI’s life.

The 9th annual ECI Day will take place on February 25 at the European Economic and Social Committee. This year, organisers and stakeholders will be invited to share their dreams and visions for the ECI and for citizens’ participation in Europe. Democracy International is a permanent ECI Day partner, and this year we will be presenting our ideas for how the ECI can evolve to become a real citizens’ initiative process leading to an EU-wide referendum on popular subjects, as well as our vision for a global ECI – a UN World Citizens’ Initiative!

Join us and let’s imagine the participatory democracy of tomorrow!

When: Tuesday, 25 February – 10am to 5pm

Where: European Economic and Social Committee, Rue Belliard 99 (Atrium 5), 1040 Brussels

Read the program and register here before the February 19 deadline: https://www.eesc.europa.eu/en/agenda/our-events/events/eci-day-2020-today-and-beyond/registration

On March 6, we’re taking an in-depth look at the European Citizens’ Initiative 2.0 at an ECI Conference organized by the European Commission. High-level delegates such as European Commission Vice President Vêra Jourová will exchange ideas with participants and successful ECI organisers will share their best practices and tips for leading a successful campaign.

Democracy International will also host its first stakeholder consultation on the ECI on what to expect in the new regulation and new online support infrastructure, with a hands-on training on how to make best use of the new features. Join to learn about the new updates and share your input with us!

When: Friday, March 6 – 8:15am to 6:30pm

Where: Charlemagne Conference Center in Brussels
